I'm An American
A short little poem/song I wrote for one of my characters to sing in my novel, An Acquired Taste. (It has nothing to do with the plot and I'm not this over the top patriotic anymore.)
I’m an American, tried and true.
I eat, breath, and sleep the red, white, and blue.
From Mount Rushmore in its glory to Lady Liberty,
I’m proud to be an American, as you can plainly see.
My father’s name is Washington. I have an uncle I call Sam.
And yet another I count as kin is a man named Abraham.
The notes and words of Francis Scott Key forever guide my heart.
And I hope and pray that freedom here will never, ever part.
But if it does and I’m forced to fight, I’ll proudly stand my post,
Because truth and freedom and the American way is what I love the most.
